Emirates Post runs an efficient postal system with more than 72 post offices throughout the UAE. They provide a range of services including express postal facilities. The red post boxes for outbound mail are found throughout the cities and towns in the country. Stamps can be purchased from post offices, some card shops and supermarkets. Hotels will be happy to help you with your mail.

Mail takes 6 – 10 days to reach Europe or the USA, 5 – 10 days to India, and 8 – 10 days to Australia. Post offices open from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm daily and close on Fridays and public holidays.

There are two telecommunications providers in the UAE; Etisalat and Du. Calls within Dubai are free except to mobile phones. International direct dialing is possible to more than 170 countries. Mobile phones are extremely popular, and international GSM roaming services are available in the emirate. Local telecommunications companies have roaming agreements with more than 112 countries. If your carrier does not provide roaming capabilities, you can purchase a ‘Wasel’ prepaid SIM card which offers easy connectivity worldwide. Wasel eliminates the need to pay high roaming charges and is available from Etisalat offices. GPRS and WAP services are also available. The prepaid top-up cards (valid for local and long-distance calls) are available at many shops and supermarkets.

You can enjoy off-peak rates daily from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, 9:00 pm to 7:00 am and on Fridays and public holidays.

Wi-Fi broadband internet access is offered widely at public locations throughout Dubai. iZones are located at coffee shops, restaurants, hotels and many other places where prepaid cards can also be purchased.

Etisalat Dial ‘N’ Surf service is designed to allow easy access by eliminating the need for any service subscription or documentation. Dial 500 5555 to get connected. The phone number used to connect to the service will be billed.

Du is a more recently established telecom company that offers cell phone, internet and many other services. You can check for the current offers in one of their stores on arrival.
